Two intraday lines, one rule — only trade when price has closed beyond both.
Stack the session VWAP and a fast 9 EMA on an intraday chart and only trade when price closes decisively on one side of both lines. Pure momentum confirmation — no zones, no prediction.
The VWAP + EMA Trend Filter uses two lines everyone on an intraday chart is already watching — the session VWAP (the volume-weighted average price institutions and algos anchor to) and a fast 9 EMA — and only takes a trade when price has closed clearly on one side of both. There is nothing to draw and nothing to predict. You are answering one question on every candle: did it close beyond both lines? Because the VWAP resets at each session open, this is an intraday-only method: run it on the 1-minute to scalp, or the 5- to 15-minute for a calmer pace. On stock indices it only works on the futures chart — the spot/cash chart has no VWAP.
Add the session VWAP and a 9-period EMA. In a clean uptrend price sits above both lines and they slope up together — the 9 EMA nearer price, the VWAP just below it. In a downtrend it is the mirror. One nuance to respect: the VWAP resets at every session open, jumping back near price before it rebuilds, so signals in the first 2–3 candles of a session are unreliable while it settles.

Wait for a candle to CLOSE above both the VWAP and the 9 EMA. The close is the trigger — a candle that only wicks above and closes back under is not a signal. Enter at the close of that candle. Put your stop below the most recent swing low, and set your target at twice that distance (2R).

The exact mirror image. Price is in a downtrend, pulls back up toward the two lines, forms a swing high, then a large red candle CLOSES below both. Enter on that close, stop above the swing high, target 2R below entry.

There are two exits. Either your 2R target is hit and you are done, or — before that — a candle closes back on the opposite side of both lines. That close is the trend telling you the move is over; take what is there and step out. Never slide the stop away from the swing to 'give it room' — the swing is the point where the idea is wrong.

If price is chopping — closing above both lines one bar and below them the next while the lines sit flat and keep getting crossed — there is no trend and no edge. After a run of those crosses, skip it. Wait for a clean, one-directional close beyond both lines before you do anything.

VWAP resets every session, so this only works intraday — best on 5m/15m, or 1m for scalping. On stock indices, VWAP plots only on the futures contract, not the spot/cash chart. The 9 EMA reacts fast and will whipsaw in low-volatility sessions — backtest on your instrument before going live, and keep a journal.
