Momentum plus price position — trade only when RSI and VWAP agree.
RSI identifies bullish or bearish momentum; the session VWAP confirms whether price is actually trading above or below the day's value area. Neither is a signal on its own — a trade only exists when both agree.
This strategy combines two things everyone already has on their charts. RSI(14) answers 'is there momentum, and which way?' The session VWAP answers 'is price actually trading above or below today's average, or is this just noise?' Neither indicator is a signal by itself — the trade only exists where both agree. Because VWAP resets every session, this is intraday-only: 1-minute for scalping, 5- to 15-minute for a calmer pace.
Add RSI(14) and the session VWAP. RSI above 60 means bullish momentum; RSI below 40 means bearish momentum. Between 40 and 60 is a neutral zone — there is no directional edge there, so no trade comes from that range no matter what price is doing.
RSI moves above 60, and separately, a candle CLOSES above VWAP — not just touches it. When both conditions are true, enter at the close of that confirmation candle. Stop loss goes at the low of that same candle. Target: twice the entry-to-stop distance (2R) by default.
The mirror image. RSI drops below 40, and a candle CLOSES below VWAP. Enter at that close, with the stop above the high of the confirmation candle, and the same 2R target measured downward.
The most common way to ruin this setup is entering the instant price touches VWAP. A candle can wick through VWAP and close right back on the other side — that is not a signal, that is a rejection. Only a candle that actually CLOSES beyond VWAP, with RSI already past its level, counts as confirmation.

The source concept for this strategy defines the entry and stop clearly but leaves the exit undefined — we made it mechanical for teaching purposes with a fixed 2R target. That is our addition, not part of the original idea, so treat the VWAP-close-back and RSI-momentum exits as alternatives to test separately rather than rules to mix together. Risk management still applies on top of the setup: on a $10,000 account risking 1% ($100 max loss), the distance between your entry and stop decides your position size — a wider stop means a smaller size, never a bigger risk.
